Voting for the winners of the inaugural DSC Social Change Awards has opened online to the public with more than 1,300 votes from all over the UK received in the first 24 hours.

Inclusive, fun and informal, the inaugural Social Change Awards are for individuals, charities, community groups, companies and public bodies who are working to achieve a positive change in society. Minister for the Third Sector Ed Miliband has agreed to attend the awards reception, which will take place at Charityfair in London on Wednesday 6 June at 6.15pm.

Nominations were invited for four categories:

Everyday Impact Award
For individuals, small local companies or community groups who have a clear vision for change.

Influencer Award
For individuals or organisations that really know which buttons to press to make things happen

Investing in Social Change Award
For not-for-profit organisations, commercial companies or individual donors that have really thought about how they invest time, skills or money to achieve social change.

Public Body Award
For public bodies that have worked effectively with their community to achieve shared social change objectives

The shortlisting took place in early May and voting opened on the Charityfair website on 11 May. There are three shortlisted nominees in each category and their details are all on the Charityfair website. The voting system allows strictly one vote per person in each category.

‘This is the first year for the Awards and we are delighted with the applications and the public response’, said Graham Leigh, DSC’s Director of Development. ‘There are some terrific examples of social change on our site and voting is still open so there’s time for plenty more votes.’
