What on earth is going on with our politics?

Don't miss out on the Engage 2025 conference!

As party conference season draws to a close, UK politics seems in turmoil. How can charities adapt and respond? Or even better, promote a positive message and better example?

There seems to be no easy answer. We’re living in a very strange time. The unpopularity of political leaders and parties is almost unprecedented. Politically, things that seemed off the table just a few years ago, now are becoming mainstream. Politicians seem to be falling over themselves to demonise immigrants and take a chainsaw to long-fought-for and established rights.

Even charities are increasingly caught in the crossfire. At the same time, so much policy and legislation is shifting and moving underneath the simplistic media narratives, which gets almost no coverage. What can we do about this?

You can find out at DSC’s Engage conference on Thursday, 16 October! This is our flagship event for those wanting to influence the political system at all levels. Whether you’re a seasoned policy pro or a trustee trying to get to grips with how the latest legislation affects your charity, this event is for you.

We’ll explore the current context – what’s going on and how we can influence in this fractious environment, including hearing from expert speakers about how you can influence and build your networks.

We’ll also cover current policy issues affecting the charity sector. Including: the Civil Society Covenant announced in the summer – what is it and how can we use it to boost our influence with government; the latest in devolution and local government reorganisation and how this affects charities; and how to handle politics in an age of polarisation.

Throughout the day, we’ll be joined by a range of expert speakers who will give you real insights into what’s going on right now and what you can do about it.
