Debra and Peter are doing a Podcast - Episode 50

Golden jacket? Check. A heartfelt poem? Absolutely. Hitting episode 50 of Debra and Peter are doing a Podcast feels like the right moment to celebrate and say thanks to everyone who's toned in, shared an episode, or sent us a question.

If you’ve been with us since the very start, you’ll remember that first episode back in October 2024 welcoming the show and inviting listeners to follow along on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. That early note set the tone: two seasoned charity CEOs swapping real-world insights (and the odd cricket aside) every week.

Episode 50 opens with nostalgia and warmth. The new John Lewis Christmas advert gets Peter a bit misty-eyed, which quickly spirals into childhood music, treasured books and the films that shaped them (yes, there’s a Hollywood musical or two, and a Springsteen nod for good measure). Then it pivots to the sector’s horizon: news that Julia Unwin is set to become the next Chair of the Charity Commission prompts optimism about leadership teams that really work together.

From there, Debra takes aim at the new SORP: Are trustees being asked to do too much with too little? Is impact reporting realistic for small charities already stretched thin? And what happened to the promised Charity Sector Covenant meant to reset relationships with government? It’s a proper mix of personal warmth and professional challenge. (Plus a silver cowboy boot gets an honorary shout-out).
