Fundraising Regulator updates – code consultation and online giving
The Fundraising Regulator has opened a consultation on changes to the Code of Fundraising Practice, to bring it into line with GDPR, the new data protection legislation which will come into force next year. The consultation closes on 8 December.
The regulator has also announced, following a previous meeting, that it will be updating the Code to include standards for online giving platforms.
Joint budget letter
A number of sector bodies, including CFG, NAVCA and Small Charities Coalition, have written a joint letter to the Treasury and the Office for Civil Society, with recommendations for measures to strengthen the sector in next month’s budget. These proposals include funding for training, a consultation on the use of dormant assets and support for specialist infrastructure to enable the sector to feed into the work of national and local government.
Tracey Crouch article on campaigning
The minister for civil society, Tracey Crouch, has said that she wants to work with charities to ensure they feel confident to campaign. This comes after the government rejected Lord Hodgson’s proposed reforms to the Lobbying Act. In her article, Tracey Crouch argues that caution around campaigning has arisen from how the act is perceived, and that she wants to ‘turn the chill to a warm breeze’.
